Vintage no name yellow gutta percha golf ball-Circa 1895-1902. A few imperfections, but, no signs of this ball ever being played. A nice example that will be good for display. I am downsizing, so, it is time for someone else to enjoy it.. There was a high end golf game made in the early 1900's in the U.K. that actually had golf clubs very similar to a long nosed golf club.. This game came with 4 golf balls-white, red, yellow and blue. Often the Blue ball was stamped Maponite, sometimes another color was stamped. Over my 35+ years of collecting golf, I have purchased 2 sets of 4 of these colorful golf balls. This was a very high end golf game for the time and I really don't think a lot were made, as I have only seen 2 or 3 complete games. The yellow gutta percha golf ball listed here was inone of these a sets of 4 golf balls. My opinion is this golf game was made about the time Maponite was going out of business due to the new Haskell golf ball's popularity and the game company was able to purchase the remaining Maponite golf ball stock very cheap. The game company either painted them or had them painted the different colors. If you can find a Maponite, it usually is blue or has a blue tint after it was repainted. Occasionally, I have seen white and red Maponite's. I believe the game company was able to purchase no name gutta percha golf balls also pretty cheap again due to the Haskell, and had them painted also. I have heard speculation that the no name balls are Maponite's that were never stamped. which I guess, could be possible. This vintage yellow gutta percha golf ball is a great example for any golf ball collection. I sold the other yellow ball I had from this game 6 or 7 months ago at this same price. This is the last one I have. .Item is guaranteed as described, returns accepted if not as described with the buyer paying all postage.
